Referrals may be made by health professionals, social work departments, and any other statutory or voluntary organisations.

What the counselling service offers

  • There are two routes of access:

    1. Core services - free counselling services with one of our student/volunteer counsellors. Potential 4-6 week waiting list. 

    2. Fast Track Services - access to paid counselling services (£45 per session). 14 day waiting list.  

  • Confidential one-to-one counselling for ages over 18 years. 

  • Sessions lasting 50 mins, occurring once a week at the same time, for a duration of 8 weeks. 

  • Session times: Daytime — 9am to 4pm. 

  • All counsellors working on behalf of Well Beings are student / registered members of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and work to its Code of Ethics and Practice.


Referral criteria

  • Adult aged 18+

  • Living in Calderdale 

  • Not engaged with any other counselling service or psychology services


Client suitability

  • Counselling is not always useful for everyone — in particular, those who suffer from major mental illness may not be able to make best use of the short-term service we offer.  

  • Our counsellors provide level 3 psychological support for people suffering from the impact of minor mental health concerns. We are not able to meet the needs of people with complex mental health or substance misuse problems who are receiving or need mental health care services.


When making a referral please explain the following

  • There is likely to be a waiting list

  • Expectation of counselling - must be able to commit to a regular once a week appointment for 8 weeks.


About our counsellors

Our team of counsellors have all undergone or are in the process of undergoing their counselling training on established Diploma courses (minimum level 4) and have supervision and support for their work. 


Fast track service

This service is available for patients who wish to pay for their counselling sessions. Patients will be offered a counselling appointment within 14 days for a fee of £45 per session. This removes people from our standard service, helping us to reduce waiting times for everyone accessing the service.


How to make a referral

Referrals may be made by health professionals, Social Work Departments, and any other statutory or voluntary organisations. 


When making the referral, please give the patient a copy of our counselling information pack we have provided you with. If you require these documents, please email Jackie at


On receipt of the referral, we will issue the client with an information pack. We will ask the client to complete and return some simple forms. Clients returning the required forms will be placed directly on our waiting list.
